Programme History

The JNSC Programme had its genesis in the Government’s Learn, Earn, Give, and Save (LEGS) Programme which began in 2017. This Programme aimed to create employment and training opportunities for unattached/at risk /underserved youths.

The JNSC programme has successfully trained more than six thousand (6000) individuals to date.

The JNSC Programme is a collaborative initiative between the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) and the HEART/NSTA Trust.

The JDF is responsible for the military training and development of all participants in the Programme while the HEART/NSTA Trust is responsible for the provision of skills training and certification.

Programme Structure

The JNSC Programme will be administered along two pathways as follows:

  • Pathway 1- Military Pathway (this includes basic recruit training and sets the participants on a path to join the military)
  • Pathway 2- Workforce Development (Skills-based) Pathway (Participants will be taught various technical and vocational courses that are certified by HEART/NSTA Trust.)

For the first six weeks of the Programme, all participants will participate in a Personal Development Training Programme.  After this period, they will be placed in a pathway for the duration of the programme.  Participants can also select the pathway that they are interested in, but the final decision will be determined by certain criteria being met by the participants.
